The honorees are identified, researched and debated by the VenuesNow editorial team. They also solicit opinions of those who work in the sports industry. Regarding the selection process VenuesNow stated, “we evaluated individuals for factors that included documented excellence, innovation, financial success, commitment to diversity, and leadership in their field, in addition to their response to the challenges that 2020 has brought. We tried to recognize people at multiple levels of the business, not just those at the top.”

Cole has led design efforts on over twenty-five sports facilities across the nation in the last 24 years. During that time he has worked in the capacity of market leader, project designer, project architect and principal in charge.
